The quilombos were settlements formed by escaped African slaves who were transported by Europeans across the Atlantic. This release compiles selected tracks from Mestre Cupijó’s six studio albums which were recorded between 1975 and 1982. Many of Cupijó’s compositions, influenced by cumbia, mambo and merengue, are still performed today during the legendary Cametá Carnival. Listen to “Caboclinha Do Igapo“.
