Sorry Bamba

Following Mali’s independence from France in 1960, state sponsored bands set out to modernize the country’s traditional music in a act of cultural pride. In Mopti, a diverse city where Dogon, Mande, Fulani, Bambara, Bozo and other ethnicities resided, Sorry Bamba became a successful bandleader whose music encompassed the diversity of his region.
