Anders Nelson

For over fifty years American born Anders Nelson (aka Anders Nelsson) was a major figure in Hong Kong entertainment. Being the son of missionaries Nelson found himself living in Hong Kong during his teen years. In 1963, Nelson’s high school band, The Kontinentals, released their single I Think Of Her/I Still Love You which helped make him one of Hong Kong’s favorite blonde haired, blue eyed popstars. His success led him into film where he stared in spy movies and later scored a small role in Bruce Lee’s Way Of The Dragon.

While the A-side of this 45 is a standard fare upbeat pop number, the flip however, “Black Ode To Jill (Where’s Jack?)” is anything but. Beginning with the onimous sway of a grandfather clock recreated by a maltuned guitar, it breaks into a dark brooding emotional ballad. It swells with fuzz as it reaches the chorus only to return to its depressed state.
